An orphan, or so he thought, Charlie comes face-to-face with his father, who abducts and takes him. After escaping, Charlie heads for the island of Philip Stump. He manages to reach out to a friend and they set off on adventures, exploring and fishing for food. They travel along a river, meeting people but always concealing their identity so not to be found or get into trouble.
